ATLANTA, GA…The leading candidate in the 2017 race for Mayor of Atlanta has received early financial support from voters in every sector of the city, with 96% of her donations coming from metro Atlanta. In her campaign’s first 100 days through January 31, 2017, over 1000 donors gave more than $400,000 to help make Mary Norwood Atlanta’s next Mayor and to bring transparency to City Hall.
Volunteers from more than 70% of Atlanta neighborhoods are already active with her campaign and nearly 90% of Norwood’s contributions are from individuals within the City of Atlanta. “The significant grass-roots support I have from voters in every part of our city is extraordinary and I am extremely grateful,” Norwood said.
“My campaign donors come from every council district in the city – a powerful statement of unity behind my campaign to make our city government accountable to all Atlantans. As Mayor, that’s what I’ll do for the future of our great city.”
“I will make sure that all of our city’s financial information – including checks – are posted on line for public scrutiny. It is essential to reform the bidding process for city contracts.” Currently, Norwood, City Council Member at-Large, Post #2, has pending legislation to mandate that Atlanta post all city finances on line. She is determined to bring openness to all aspects of city hall business as Mayor.
“As public officials, we are the guardians of public money. The uses of that money should be available and accessible to our citizens. Total transparency and complete accountability are vital for our citizens to have trust in their government and their elected officials.”
